HEAD COACH’S COLUMN:

Great job to everyone who participated at the Douglas meet. It was great to see so many of you at our first meet of the season.

The beginning of the season is usually a time when the swimmers are working very hard, getting back in shape after the summer break and building a base for the new season. I was very pleased with everyone’s efforts and racing! I think we are on the right path to swim fast at the State Championships in November.

Sometimes, new swimmers and some parents panic if they don’t see best times at every meet. However remember that in swimming, it is normal not to swim best times during the meets that happen during certain parts of the season. Best times should be expected after “tapering” when the body has had a chance to assimilate the hard work but is rested enough to be able to move fast.

I want to also congratulate all the Tiburon Mile participants for great swims. Samantha, Tatum, Kevin, Garrett and Jacob did a great job and I think that race is a character-building race that goes a long way. I enjoyed watching these swimmers race.

October is here and with it the Reno meet and the Nevada day parade. This year’s Nevada day’s theme is UFO’s so we will be getting swimmers of the different groups together to make their own masks in order to wear them on the traditional Tiger sharks’ float. Please watch out for more information in order to help out for this event. It is always so much fun!

Have a safe and happy Halloween.

Coach Gaby

CJ’S CORNER:

We just finished what seemed like a very long weekend in Minden and I want to congratulate all the swimmers that attended. The “Autumn Freeze” certainly lived up to its name and the kids endured some very chilly mornings and days in order to swim their events. I think just about every Red swimmer (and most others) had at least one best time and I hope you are all happy with that. We are heading into our hardest training weeks in order to get ready for the State meet in November so it is very hard to swim fast right now. My Red group had a hard week of practice and dryland with no real rest and they still swam great. Congratulations to those of you who qualified for State in some more events this weekend. We still have the Reno meet in October to make State times so keep up the good work and those that need to rest for Reno meet will.

The next few weeks will be hard practices for everyone but the taper for the big meet is always nice. Keep working hard and you will be rewarded with fast times in the end. We have a fun month ahead with Halloween and the Nevada Day parade so I am really looking forward to good times with the team. Hope you are all enjoying this cool fall weather we are having and I am sure the snow is not far behind. Yikes!!

Coach CJ
Go Buckeyes!!!

BONNIE’S BITES:

The fall season is upon us and everyone has been working very hard.

I would first like to welcome three new swimmers to my white group. First is Kaylee Young who is 12 and goes to school and EVMS. She started at the end of August and just completed her first meet. She did a great job at the meet. I am excited to see her progress. Welcome.

Next, I would like to welcome Danielle. She is 13 and goes to Carson Middle School. She swam pre-comp this summer and decided to join the team in August. She is working very hard.

Finally, I would like to welcome Abby Williams. She swam summer league the last 2 years and decided to take the plunge and join year round. She had a great meet, dropping time in everything she swam.

At the Douglas meet we had some great swims by Stella Carol who took time off in almost all of her events and had a two second drop in her 50 free. Charlee Bradley had some awesome swims she continues to drop time in her events. Kelsey Bradley also dropped time this weekend. She had a fantastic 25 fly and 100 free. Caitlin Campbell also had a good meet and improved in most of her swims. She had a fantastic 100 fly. Way to go ladies.

A quick reminder the Reno meet sheets are out. Please sign up if you haven’t already and we will be participating in the Nevada Day Parade. More information on that will be coming out.

With the beginning of school and winter fast approaching it is important to keep rested and warm. Please remember our schedules tend to get busy and we all can get run down. Eat well, stay rested and take care of yourself.

Keep working hard and I’ll see you at the pool.

Coach Bonnie

DONYA’S MESSAGE:

My Supersquad and Blue groups just keep growing. Welcome to all my new swimmers .

At the “Autumn Freeze” meet all of my swimmers had really good swims, with alot of time drops and best times.

Nick and Katie Fischer after having taken a break came back to their first meet and took time off of their races. Congratulations to Spencer, Kayla, and Zach who swam in their first meet this past weekend. Mikel and River also had an awesome meet, great turns!

Coming up at the end of October is the Reno meet. I want everyone that can come to sign-up!

Coach Donya

FROM THE PRESIDENT:

Thoughts and Comments From the Club President

As you will learn more about in her comments below, Nancy is no longer serving as co-president; which means that I have become the club president. Before, making any further comments, I would like to acknowledge Nancy’s service as co-president. In fact, she was co-president in name only, as I have to admit that she was doing well over 90% of the president’s duties, and that I have been “pitching in” only on and as needed basis. But, it is now time for me to “step up on the blocks”.

In this column in future months, I plan to address issues and opportunities facing the Tiger Sharks program. However, for now, the club’s focus needs to be squarely on the upcoming State Meet (November 9-12). So, I will forgo any further comments and simply request that you read and respond to the information on the State Meet which Nancy has set out below, in her capacity as Meet Director.

Mike

Greetings from the past co-president

1. “The one constant in life is change.” I don’t know who said it first, but we all know that the saying is true. You will notice that there is a change in the name on the president’s letter. Mike and I realized that serving as the meet director as well as co-president was just too much for me, so I have stepped out of the co-president’s position in order to devote my energies to the up coming meets.

There are other changes taking place in the club leadership. The By-laws have been revised and there are more positions on the board. It is exciting to see more parents of younger swimmers stepping forward. The Carson TigerSharks have a program that offers opportunities to a wide range of swimmers and yet traditionally the parents of the senior swimmers have held the positions on the board. It is understandable in one way, but the current board members are encouraging all parents to recognize that they may have a voice in the club’s management and to step forward and speak up.

Greetings from the Meet Director

We’re gearing up for the Nevada State Championships! Those volunteer forms that each family completed are great and appreciated. You will be contacted about your meet jobs shortly before the meet in November. Of course, if you would like to train for a specialty job, we won’t hold you to your previous choices. Many of the people who do those jobs that require training have swimmers who will be graduating soon and we would like to begin training people to step into those positions.

Those of you who have helped with previous State Meets know that it is a very exciting time. The entire State of Nevada is represented. All the competitive swimming programs have the opportunity to send swimmers with qualifying times and your swimmer may be among that group. If they don’t have qualifying times now, they may by next year.

Do you enjoy the technical aspects of swimming? Train to be a Stroke and Turn Official. There will be an opportunity to shadow a stroke and turn official and to participate in a clinic at the Reno meet. Give me a call if you have questions or email Van Fortier (van.fortier@gmail.com).

The first step in the official’s training is that of marshal. It is easy to do and it is a great way to be on deck and watch the meet. Please let me know if you are interested. The training is brief.

I’m looking forward to working with all of you. Everyone’s contribution is valuable. Please call if you have questions. Nancy Dyer, 883-4277, nancy@tigersharks.org

CARSON TIGERSHARKS SCRIP SALES

Participate in a fundraiser where you are not being asked to spend any additional money and that directly benefits you and your swimmer!

What is Scrip?
Scrip is “substitute money.” It is a cash card or certificate from one of over 300 local and national retailers. The card may be used instead of cash or given as a gift. Some retailers allow you to pay your monthly bill using scrip.

How does Scrip Work?
Retailers sell gift cards/certificates to the Scrip company at a discount. The Tigersharks offer these same gift cards/certificates to its’ families and friends at face value. The difference between the discount rate and the face value is the profit that will be applied directly to your fundraising account (a small handling fee will be deducted to cover our shipping costs). Note this is a change. In previous years, 3% of your scrip sales were credited to your fundraising account. We will now credit the entire discount percentage.

What Merchants Participate?
Approximately 300 retailers participate in the scrip program. An entire list is included in the Tigershark handbook. Lists will also be posted at the pool. Please keep the list handy as it also indicates the percent of your purchase that will be credited to your fundraising account.

How do I Purchase Scrip?
Starting in the fall of 2006, Scrip will no longer be available for immediate purchase at the pool. Instead, all scrip will need to be preordered. Each monthly Tigershark newsletter will have an order form enclosed (extra order forms will be available at the pool). Simply fill out the form indicating the scrip that you would like to purchase, write a check made out to the Carson Tigersharks and return it to the pool with your monthly dues. As membership fees are due on the 10th of each month, all scrip orders will be due on the 10th. Scrip will be ordered on the 12th of each month and will be available at the pool for pickup approximately five days later (we’ll get a better idea on turn around time after we’ve done this a few times). You will be notified via e-mail when the scrip has arrived.

REMEMBER:
There is no sacrifice involved with purchasing scrip. You know where you want to shop so you can purchase a gift certificate to do so and get fund raising credit at the same time! Information about signing up for e-scrip is on the insert with the scrip order form in this newsletter. It is also an easy way to earn fundraising money.

HEAD COACH'S COLUMN:

Welcome back Tigersharks! It is great to see you back and to see some new faces as well. The first week back from our summer break is going smoothly and everyone seems to be getting back in shape quickly.

Don't forget registration on the 4th and 5th of September and then, our Awards Event on the 8th of September. Everyone who swam last year is invited.

I want to remind everyone to go online and update their profile. I like to have the right phone numbers, email addresses, goals and meets that you are intending to do.

Remember that this year we will be hosting the Nevada State Championships in November and we will need everyone's help. We will have two swim meets for swimmers that haven't qualified to qualify. We would love to have a big team with lots of talented and hard working swimmers representing the Tigersharks. Remember that the Nevada State Championships even have the 8 and under category, so we would love to have some representation in this age-group as well. Parents, please plan on helping. We need you.

Have a wonderful season and please don't hesitate to contact me with any questions, concerns or comments at gaby@tigersharks.org

CJ'S CORNER:

I want to congratulate all of the Red swimmers on a great end of the summer meet at the Zone 4 Championships. Everyone swam really fast and had best times and I hope you all see that the hard work can pay off. Everyone did their best to make it to practice and the times certainly reflected your hard work. I hope you all had some much deserved rest and a nice break or vacation.

We had close to perfect attendance on the first day of practice the 27th so we are off to a great start. We will work hard the next two months to get ready for the State meet that will be at our pool the beginning of November. You still have two meets to qualify for the state meet so please try to get to practice and get ready for the Douglas meet in September and the Reno meet in October. I will be resting everyone a little bit for those meets so that we can qualify more swimmers and more events.

The banquet is September 8th so I hope to see you all there. It is a fun night and a good chance to be recognized for all your hard work during the year.

Glad to see everyone back and don't hesitate to talk to me if you need anything. Fall is busy with school, soccer, cross- country, plays, etc. so I know it is a lot to fit in. If we work together we can still do other things and have a great fall season.

Coach CJ
Go Buckeyes!!!

DONYA'S MESSAGE:

Welcome back to all of my swimmers! I hope that you all had a fantastic break. It is nice to see all of your faces. I missed my Blue Group over the summer. I also want to say welcome to all of my new swimmers. It is so nice having you in my groups.

Now I know that everyone is very busy with going back to school and various other activities. But don't forget about some important swimming events coming up. On the 8th of September we have our Awards Banquet which is always alot of fun and also coming up on the 28-30 of September we have Autumn Freeze meet in Douglas. This will be a great meet to get back in the swing of things, and also for all of you who have been away for the summer.

Again welcome back and I look forward to a great Fall season!

Coach Donya

FROM THE PRESIDENT:

WELCOME SWIMMERS!
COME ON IN! THE WATER'S FINE!

Whether you are new to our club or a returning swimmer, we're glad you're joining us. If you are returning, you'll notice a few changes. As we strive to make the environment for swimming a safe and positive one in which all swimmers can excel, changes are made. The most obvious change is our deck policy. It is essential that all parents abide by the closed deck policy. Practice time is for the coaches and swimmers. If there are questions or concerns, there is time before or after practice times to communicate with the coach or arrange for a time for in depth discussion. All of our coaches want to answer questions and help parents understand the swimming program, BUT not during practice time. Thank you for cooperating with us.

Senior swimmers and parents of senior swimmers: The club is compiling a file of college swim programs. Don't think you're not good enough for college swimming. There are 3 divisions of NCAA swimming and NAIA with a wide range of time standards. Come and see our files and encourage your swimmer to check out the opportunities that college swimming offers.

The Short Course Season is off to a very fast start with the Nevada State Championship Meet being hosted by the Tiger Sharks. It is an exciting opportunity to see swimmers from all over the state of Nevada. After this year, the State Meet will be back in Las Vegas for 2 years. Bonus times will again be used, so even if your swimmer has only 1 qualifying time, he/she may meet the bonus time standards for 2 extra events. Set those goals now and hopefully we'll have many swimmers participating.

You probably know that on occasion there are odds and ends jobs that need to be done in the office (folding & addressing newsletters, stuffing envelopes, etc) and folks have said they would be glad to help out. By the end of the week you'll notice a new banner hanging by our office door that will serve as our signal that we would appreciate help. When help is needed the SOS sign will show. At all other times it will read "SMOOTH SAILING". It will be a great way to get to visit with some of you who like to stay at the pool and watch your children practice.

FUN FACTS: According to a USA swim site many physicians and pediatricians consider swimming the ideal activity for developing muscular and skeletal growth. Why do doctors like it so much? 1. Swimming develops high quality aerobic endurance, the most important key to physical development. In other sports, an hour of practice may yield as little as 10 minutes of meaningful exercise. Age group swim teams use every precious minute of practice time developing fitness and teaching skills. 2. Swimming does a better job in proportional muscular development by using all the body's major muscle groups than other sports. More facts next month.

SPONSORSHIPS

It's TIME TO GET SPONSORS!!!

Sponsorships are a great way to reduce your fundraising fees and get the community involved with the Tigershark Team! There is a new sponsorship coordinator who has lots of great ideas and can help in getting letters sent and follow-up. Her name is Tamsen Bradley and she can be reached at tamsen.bradley@yahoo.com. Ninety percent of sponsorship money received goes directly to your fund-raising account....ask your dentist, doctor, business owners, friends and family. Contact Tamsen for a list of what each sponsor receives. Also, information will be available at swim registration on September 4th and 5th. IT DOESN’T HURT TO ASK!!!

HEAD COACH'S COLUMN:

Two more weeks till the end of the season!

I would like to congratulate all of the swimmers that qualified and represented our team at The Junior Olympics this summer: Tim Grunert, Jacob Cornwell, Ryan Hogan, Tatum Boehnke, Julie Asire, Kevin Dyer, Garrett Clayton, Matt Grunert, Samantha Ashmore and our relay swimmer: Julia Lapham. These swimmers did a great job representing our team and achieving 40 personal best times as well as seven first places, four second places and five third places. I am very proud of all of them. Five of these swimmers also swam the qualifying times to apply to the Western Zone team. Garrett and Kevin will be representing Pacific swimming at this meet at the end of the season.

On the 4th of August, our team will be participating in the Squaw Valley Hike. The entries will help Cancer research. Go to www.squawmountainrun.com to download the form and fax it back. It really should be a great time and a great workout. Sofia and I will do it.

We only have one meet to go! Everyone should be participating in the Zone 4 Championships. This is the last meet of the season. You all have been working hard, you should go to the Zone 4 championships to swim fast and receive the prize for your efforts.

The summer program session is almost over, and I would like to invite all of our summer swimmers to join our year round team. We would love to have you!

Good luck to everyone and have a good break. Make sure to keep checking our website and our online calendar in order to stay in touch and informed about our registration and New season starting in September.

Danielle Judge and Barbara Perkins are our graduating seniors. Good luck to them in college. We will miss you and loved having you as part of our team for the last 10 years.

CJ'S CORNER:

July seemed to go by even faster than June and it was filled with lots of fun and great swimming. Several of the team went to Lake Tahoe for the Summer Invitational and had some really fast swims. Congrats to all who participated in the meet: Jacob and Kaly Branco, Abby Pittman, Sophie Holmes, Vanessa Rauch, Tallon Rauch, Conner Novak, Charlee Bradley, Kelsey Bradley, Eric Hines, Conor Croskery, Kacey and Ethan Lopes, Stella Carroll, Caitlin Campbell, and Mikel Flatley. Several of these swimmers had best times and Jacob, Mikel, Kelsey and Tallon all took home top 6 awards in the blue flight.

This past weekend the community center hosted the Capital City Kids' Triathlon and there were several Tigersharks in attendance. It was an awesome event and I want to congratulate all of our swimmers for doing an awesome job in the race. (see additional article)

Tim Grunert represented the Red group at the Junior Olympic meet in San Jose. It is an honor to qualify and he did a great job at only his second appearance at JO's. Great Job Tim!! Jessica Fahrenbruch also qualified for the meet but was unable to attend due to having to have her tonsils out this summer. We will all shoot for the next JO's since a lot of swimmers were very close to the cuts.

Red group is now focused on the Zone 4 meet in two weeks and they are really working hard. Keep up the good work and enjoy the taper for the meet. I think we will make a good showing in Reno and I am looking forward to that meet.

The Summer Team made a good showing at the Douglas pool in Minden. Almost all of our swimmers were in attendance and everyone swam really well. The whole team improved immensely over the summer and we hope to see all of you with the team in the fall. We will start up again with practice on August 27th when school starts. See myself or any coach for details on how to swim in the fall.

Enjoy the rest of the summer!!

Coach CJ

SURVIVOR SUMMER 2007

Congratulations to Jacob Branco on being voted winner of survivor 2007 by his teammates. With almost all of the votes turned in out of 16 participants, Jacob was a nearly unanimous choice for Sole Survivor and won several prizes. Jacob was also a member of the winning team known as the Killing Koalas and they all received team prizes for their victory. The kids competed in challenges every Monday for 8 weeks and it ended Monday the 30th with a greased watermelon competition and final votes were cast. Thanks to all the parents for going out of their way to help and also get the kids to Monday workouts.

Members of the teams were:

Feroce Chatons: Tim Grunert, Erin Chang, Elizabeth Everest, Abby Pittman, Arnold Flores, Haley Stokes, Sophie Holmes and Julianne Perkins

Killing Koalas: Jessica Fahrenbruch, Emily Adams, Jacob Branco, Annelise Dankworth, Nathanael Williams, Anna McMahon, Vanessa Rauch, and Michaela Gillenwater

Capital City Kids' Triathlon

Our pool hosted the fourth annual Capital Kids' Triathlon on Saturday July 28th. With just over 100 competitors, over a fourth of those were Carson Tigersharks. Our kids did a great job and it was exciting to see them compete in something a little different. A triathlon is not an easy event and these kids aged 4 to 14 did an awesome job in a very hard competition.

Depending on their age they swam anywhere from 25 yds. to 200 meters, biked anywhere from .4 miles to 2.6 miles and then ran distances ranging from .5 miles to 1.3 miles. For any of you that have never seen or participated in a triathlon, it is a very rigorous event but a great way to train and be in extra great swimming shape.

Cross-training is obviously needed for this type of race and by doing all three, you challenge your muscles in lots of different ways. By training in all three sports, you can actually decrease your chance of injury in the pool. The kids worked on their biking and running throughout the summer and obviously the swim portion of the race was easier just by going to practice. It is a huge advantage to be fast in the water but the rest is still very difficult, especially if you are not used to biking and running. Comments from members of our Tigersharks ranged from "I felt good, that is all cardio" Jacob Branco (who won the 13 -14 age group) to "I am never doing this again" Erin Chang (who did an awesome job in the girls 13-14 and her first tri). Whether they felt great or extremely spent..."I have nothing left" Jess Fahrenbruch (also 13-14 and raced despite tonsillectomy a few weeks before), they all did great. It was so nice to see all of our team out there racing and cheering each other on. River Flatley (6 and under boys) crossed the finish line with at least three older Tigershark boys supporting and cheering him on and even one Douglas swimmer.

This is a great way for the team to bond with each other and get out of their usually swimming boxes that they are always in. Congrats to all of you on an awesome effort and maybe next year we will see even more Tigersharks show up at the starting line.

Racers:

6 and under - Mikel Flatley, River Flatley, Ann Everest (completed the whole race despite a bad wipe out on the bike..way to go!!!!!), Megan Abercrombie
7 and 8 yrs - Harry Meyer, Nick Fischer, Tim Novak, Ethan Lepire, Reece Canfield, Katie Fischer, Kelsey Bradley
9 and 10 yrs - Tallon Rauch, Jeremiah Hessig, KC Meyer, Connor Novak, Charlee Bradley
11 and 12 yrs - Hayley Canfield, Elizabeth Everest, Hailey Lepire, Vanessa Rauch
13 and 14 yrs - Jacob Branco, Jess Fahrenbruch, Erin Chang

JULY, 2007
Volume 10, Issue 11

HEAD COACH'S COLUMN:

Hello Tigersharks, Hopefully everyone is having a great summer. I can't believe how fast it is going by!

June was a busy month! The Lake Berryessa Open water swim went great, with 14 Tigersharks competing and 4 of them finished top five in their category! Kevin Dyer finished 2nd place. Tatum Boehnke finished 3rd, Samantha Ashmore finished 3rd and Julie Asire finished 5th. The event was so much fun, we hope to have more swimmers going next year! The Reno Gamble and the Bishop invitational also took place in June. Good job to everyone swimming in these two events. We had several first places and even some high point award winners!

Our summer program is on its way, and they have already had two dual meets! In July, they will have one more dual meet and the kid's triathlon that the city is hosting. Welcome to our team!

Our Championship meets are almost here! Junior Olympics will take place from the 19th through the 22nd of July. All qualified swimmers should enter the meet soon and reserve a room in San Jose. The coaches will be staying at the Holiday Inn Express listed on the meet form. Swimmers have been working hard and are getting ready to fine tune for this championship meet.

If you missed qualifying for JO's, you should be going to the Tahoe invitational from the 13th through the 15th of July.

Please MARK YOUR CALENDAR for Sat. August 4th at 9 AM.. This is the 27th Annual Squaw Valley Mountain Run. For the past 26 years on the first Saturday of August hundreds of runners and hikers have made this pilgrimage to the top of Squaw Valley and a portion of the proceeds go to help support ongoing cancer prevention programs in the Tahoe Area. Since our team has many personal losses from this disease we will be participating in this event. It can be a great FAMILY day. You can enter this event by going to the following website: <http://www.squawmountainrun.com/> for info and forms. The deadline for the cheaper entries is before July 4th.

The Zone 4 Championships from the 10th through the 12th of August are the last meet of the 2006-2007 year. We hope everyone is planning to be there.

The season in almost over! Please keep checking our online calendar and web site for end of the season events! We hope everyone is having a great time!

Coach Gaby

CJ'S CORNER:

"Busy" is certainly an understatement for the month of June for the Tigersharks. We have a had a lot of activity but it seems to have been very productive and we are off to the start of a great summer. Congratulations to all the kids who swam in the Reno High Altitude Meet and in the Bishop Invitational. We had some great swims and both meets were very long and all the kids did a great job of hanging in there. In the Reno meet lots of times dropped even though we worked hard right up until the Thursday before .Everyone swam great at Bishop and I want to give extra congrats to Tallon Rauch and Mikel and River Flatley on their high point awards!!!! Also great job to Charlee and Kelsey Bradley on setting new pool records at the Bishop meet.

Survivor is going strong and we are already done with three challenges. The Feroce Chatons (capt. Tim Grunert) are ahead two to one but the Killing Kaolas (capt. Jess Fahrenbruch) are right behind and keeping it close. Norcal swim shop is helping to sponsor the event by giving a prize to the Sole Survivor at the end of July. Also giving us a huge sponsorship is Fleet Feet running shoe store in Carson. Tigershark parent Scott Keith has recently taken over the ownership of the store and he has given us gift cards for all the members of the winning team as well as a big gift card for the Sole Survivor. Please check out the store and give Scott your business. If any of the Red group or younger swimmers need running shoes or apparel for the July 28th triathlon, Fleet Feet is the place to go and Scott will be happy to help you and answer any questions you may have.

Summer league is going well and we have already had one meet and our second one is this Friday in Reno. The kids get better by the day and we hope to see all of them as full time Tigersharks come September. Good luck to all of you in Reno!!!!

Thanks to all the parents and swimmers for all their help with everything and anything this summer. It does get busy and I really appreciate all the little things you do to help me out. Don't hesitate to email me or catch me on the deck if you or your swimmer need anything.

Coach, CJ

BONNIE'S BITES:

Wow! Summer is in full swing. First of all I would like to thank the coaching staff for covering my practices while I took some time off.

I first want to welcome Gary to the White group. He is a great addition to our team and has been working very hard in practice.

Next, even though I was at the Reno Gamble for one day and we only had one swimmer I thought Nathanael did a fantastic job in swimming the 1500. I was very impressed with his swim. Way to go.

Then we were off to Bishop. This has to be my favorite meet. Our swimmers always do great. This summer was no different. We had two swimmers set new pool records and they are Kelsey Bradley who at the age of 8 swam the 400 IM for the first time and not to be out done was Charlee Bradley who swam the mile for the first time and set the pool record. Both swims were very impressive.

Tallon Rauch won high point for the 9 year old boys. He has been the high point winner for the past three years. He had some personal best times and looked amazing in his 100 fly.

Caitlin Campbell did an awesome job swimming in her first meet as a 9 year old. She improved on almost all of her events. Stella Carol had a great meet. She dropped time and also had a few "B" times. Super job.

All of our swimmers looked great. Congratulations to Mikel and River Flatley who also won high point for their age groups.

Keep swimming hard and get ready for Tahoe and Zone Championships.

See you at the pool.

Coach Bonnie

DONYA'S MESSAGE:

Congratulations to all my Supersquad and Blue swimmers who swam at Bishop! River Flatley and Claire Adams dropped times in almost all of their events. River and Mikel Flatley took home the boys and girls 6 and under high point trophies. Awesome job!

I am seeing great progress from all of my summer Tigersharks! I am very impressed with how fast you guys are picking up the new skills. Our first two meets came up fast, but you all did great! Keep up the good work!

Coach Donya

FROM THE PRESIDENT:

It's hard to believe that July is already here. I hope that everyone is enjoying the summer, especially the heat. I do my best to avoid it as summer is my least favorite season.

I had hoped that we'd be able to tell folks when the summer activity would be, but we are still in the planning stages. Be sure to check the team calendar and your folders when you come to the pool. When a decision is made everyone will be notified.

You'll notice that there will be a general membership meeting this month. A lot of work went into bringing the by-laws up to date and now they need to be approved by the club. The new by-laws will be posted on the bulletin board for everyone to review. Any family with a swimmer is eligible to vote.

Gaby is keeping the calendar up to date so be sure to check it often.

Be sure to use the sunscreen and try to stay cool.

Nancy Dyer

YOUTH OF THE YEAR

Tim Grunert - For the first time this year, the Nevada Appeal is selecting a youth athlete of the year from an organization. The Appeal plans to select a youth athlete from a different youth organization each year.

This year, the Appeal has chosen the Carson Tigersharks and Tim Grunert.

Grunert was the state champion in the 50-yard and 100-yard breaststroke for 11-12-year-old boys at the state meet held earlier this year at the Carson Aquatic Facility. He has qualified for the 2007 Far Western and Western Regional Junior Olympic meets and competed in the 2007 Western Regional Junior Olympic short-course meet. In addition, Grunert has completed the Lake Berryessa one-mile open water swim.

An Eagle Valley Middle School seventh grader, Grunert maintains straight As and has been part of the seventh grade leadership. He's also a member of the Eagle Valley symphonic band and made the Northern Zone Honor Band in 2006 and 2007.

He's also a member of the First United Methodist Church youth group and a member of its leadership committee.
